ANCHOR & MOORING
Anchoring gear is the part of a boat you notice only when it fails, usually at the worst moment. Off Grid Superstore stocks 646 anchoring and mooring products in Australia, from ground tackle and winches through to fenders and thruster systems.
What's in the range
Thrusters & Accessories is the largest section at 227 products, followed by Anchors with 142 across plough, claw, sand and grapnel patterns. Fenders & Accessories holds 89 products, and Anchor Winches & Accessories covers 43 winches, remotes and spares including the Quick Spare Wired Plug HRC 1002.
For lines, Rope & Chain runs to 39 products and the ready-made dock lines are the quickest way to kit out a berth: the Premium Double Braided Dock Line 12mm x 8m ships with a mesh storage bag, and the Flexible Dock Rope 1.2m to 1.6m stretches to take shock loading at the cleat. Mooring covers the hardware that holds it all together.
How do you size anchoring gear?
Size from the boat, then add for the conditions you actually anchor in. Anchor weight follows hull length and displacement, but holding comes from the rode as much as the anchor: a chain length of at least five times the water depth is the usual starting point, more in wind or swell. Dock lines follow the same logic, with 12mm suiting boats up to around 8 metres and diameter stepping up from there.
Fenders are sized by boat length as well, and a spare pair is worth carrying. If you are fitting out the rest of the deck, Boat Hardware covers cleats, bollards and rollers, and Trailer covers getting the boat home.
